Have you been thinking more of the past or the future?

Posted on Feb 3rd, 2009 by Zephyr : Poeticspirit Zephyr
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 03, 2009:

Honestly, neither, too much in my life to concentrate on now, and when I do get a little spare time I like to spend it on something creative like writing a poem, or with family and friends and on line at Gaia. Here is the poem I wrote yesterday.

Weapons of Peace

In each heart lies fertile soil
to grow good or evil. No goodies

or baddies, the septum that divides
good and bad lie within us all.

What gives us the juice? What fires
our passion and the power to act?

What moves us to open our heart
to feel the pain of this world?

What precious gifts within will
heal the ills that ail our world?

Only the pure intent of truth,
insight into the profound depths

of our inter-relatedness as One,
the throb of love firing compassion.

wield these fine weapons for peace
untill all our hearts beat in rhythm.

What music has made the biggest difference in your life?

Posted on Feb 4th, 2009 by Zephyr : Poeticspirit Zephyr
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 04, 2009:

I have wide taste in music, anything from classical through jazz, pop, electronic, modern, it can move me to tears of bliss. My very favourites the harmonies of natural earth music, and how it plays to my heart,  bird song,  the rush of water , the lullaby of summer tides etc ---

Harmony.

Sound flies in like angels. They dance
through frequency haloes. Listen.
Hear earth’s multi-facet song.

Deep in the earth I sense vibration.
Nebulous ghost-notes
crawl through her skin and into the music,
bubble up in springs
where frogs play hip-hop rhythms.
Chord streams enter rivers,
rush allegro down the scales to join the sea.

Bass rolls in from the ocean,
moves with subtle tempo of night’s silver Queen.
Reflective flow of water music
rises and falls,
bathes me in oblivion, lulls me with a zephyr’s  hum
and sunset’s spectral low frequency.

Dark side of the blues,
vibration shifts to oblique nightmare
of melted nocturnal sound
muffled in dark shadow.
Plays solo, a whisper
of mystery that fails to manifest.

Dawn’s primal chords bring fresh rhythm
and chorus of birds chirping chant,
feel a new melody rise
and breathe life into all.

In a dervish of electronic hums
weighty clouds amass.
A sorcerer’s cauldron of explosions,
lightning spits hi-fi to lo-fi
black clouds collide,
drums roll,
as fearful beauty rises to a full crescendo.

Sunshine breaks through rains percussion.
Acoustic refractions beam a kaleidoscope
of rainbow coloured sounds.
Crystals caught in a blast of sun
and pitter-patter rhythm of the rain.

Stand firm, look up, see pulsars
and all that sparkles in the dome of creation.
Fingers reach for sonic chords
sound takes your hand,
kiss illusion goodbye and simply be.
Charm the birds and the planets,
Let your soul sing in heaven’s ear.

What would you like to come back as?

Posted on Feb 6th, 2009 by Zephyr : Poeticspirit Zephyr
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 06, 2009:

I don't care what I come back as - I care more about what I come back to.  I would like to reincarnate on an unpolluted planet where the natural fertility, bounty and diversity of life is respected and preserved - not destroyed,  Where community, equality, activity, and creativity are revered - not  wealth, material things and fame. Where language had a high proportion of words denoting action, community, creativity, diversity, love and nature, where everone was healthy and vibrant because they grazed on nature's produce.. We have one word for snow, yet it falls as tiny crumbs,or huge flakes, each one unique..Our language grows with new words to describe our aquisitions daily, as the proportion of verbs and descriptions of nature becomes a smaller part of the whole. We have proudly  built huge cities where society displays disfunctional symptoms, violence, crime drugs, murders, loneliness, depression, isolation and a lack of communication with neighbours
Our children are schooled to perpetuate a system that traps them and stunts their unique flowering, and denies them normal loving parenting because both parents have to work hard to pay taxes and perpetuate our systems that are actually unsustainable. Where it is not safe for them to play outdoors together with each other and the natural world.. Yes I care much more about the whole, and the environment  i reincarnate into...

When Words Are Not Enough.

Posted on Feb 6th, 2009 by Zephyr : Poeticspirit Zephyr
When Words Are Not Enough

We call it snow - and yet
sometimes it's so wet it melts
as it falls. One word - snow
other times so fine like icing

sugar dusting a cake. Snow
hardens to form ice on a lake,
it can blanket earth in peace
or it's flurries kick up a storm

till we can't see see our hands
in front of our face. If it settles
deep our earth is the quietest
place. One word for snow

feels totally inadequate
for different expressions
on it's exquisite white face.
Sun on snowmelt glistens

and a million pinhead stardrops
reflect the promise of rainbows

Who or what would you have the hardest time loving?

Posted on Feb 7th, 2009 by Zephyr : Poeticspirit Zephyr
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 07, 2009:

Mosquitoes!  Oooh I itch when I think about them, one bite and I swell up in a red lump the size of a tennis ball. The persisent little buggers find me irresistable zzzzzzzzt straight past others to home in and do their worst. I know they are one of Gods creatures - but I like to keep my distance, sheer self preservation not fear of mosquitos
its just that the allergic irritation drives me nuts!!!!
.
Eating bananas makes people irresistable to mosquitoes, they love bananas!
I found some useful tips to reduce numbers and home made remedies to repel them here -

What do you search for within yourself?

Posted on Feb 8th, 2009 by Zephyr : Poeticspirit Zephyr
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 08, 2009:

Well it just sort of bubbles up anyway, the creator made all creatures beautifully, look at each species perfect for their habitat and we are no exception. I guess i try to apply what is within me for the benefit of all, myself and the planet included and that includes growth, creativity and love, we are evolving, we don't arrive, we move on and grow towards infinity.
I look out, to look in - the world is my mirror;  if I don't like what I see I check within to see what I am doing wrong. Being human we all make mistakes if we learn from them we grow, sometimes progress like new inventions results after many mistakes,  we persist .Llike other creatures we need to find a niche or habitat that suits our unique talents. i love how we all have such varied talents. Sometimes I think we strew obstacles in our own path, look at tiny babies - we are all perfect at birth.

Winter Haiku.

Posted on Feb 9th, 2009 by Zephyr : Poeticspirit Zephyr
Winter Ku

cautiously
the cat walks on water -
ice on pond

thick snow
wild boar tracks to hole
in iced pond

winter sun
puss seeks it's warmth
from the porch.

pinhead rainbows
glisten on stardrops -
sun on snowmelt

snow storm
the doctor calls
in off-roader

snowy monday
doctor slithers down path
in high heels

candied grass
sunshine
licks it clean

winter gloom
two vibrant goldfinch
lift my mood

arctic night
puss in white boots
hunts prey

icy morning
the cat pirrhouettes
lands - legs splayed.

What have you learned about love?

Posted on Feb 13th, 2009 by Zephyr : Poeticspirit Zephyr
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 13, 2009:

Love doesn't teach lessons, it helps us see by example, the hardest was when I was more lacking in love, hopefully we grow in that capacity, it gets easier as we expand our capacity for love to be inclusive..all beings, the planet, the universe, Oneness.

What would you pick as your word for the week?

Posted on Feb 17th, 2009 by Zephyr : Poeticspirit Zephyr
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 17, 2009:

Creator, or the intelligence behind creation, I feel such gratitude and love for all that is, the natural beauty and diversity of nature. I'm getting creative in the garden and working in as close a harmony with nature and God's creatures as I can muster, my garden is shared with many other creatures, it is their world as well as ours and I try to plant for wildlife's needs as well as our needs. No one does it better than nature, think of jungle, no one tills or fertilises it and yet what productivity, and diversity. It has become a word for all time, not just one week.

What will you never regret?

Posted on Feb 19th, 2009 by Zephyr : Poeticspirit Zephyr
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 19, 2009:

I will never regret the love I shared, children, lovers, grandchildren, animals, nature,  places, loving care for people, perhaps strangers at first that i grew fond of. Love comes in many shades and variations, it is unlimited and stretches to accomodate whatever we choose to love till it is all-inclusive. We can even love creatively, all great art,  music, poetry sculpture, gardens etc are created and appreciated, with love and passion.

Tibetans in mourning for Losar

Posted on Feb 19th, 2009 by Zephyr : Poeticspirit Zephyr
Let's show our support for Tibet next Wednesday, remember the deceased and the missing—for all those who have sacrificed and endured so much in pursuit of the simple dignity and freedom of their culture and heritage. Observe a moment of silence February 25—whether it be for prayer, meditation, or quiet contemplation—and to light a candle in symbolic support of this cause that unites us with 6 million Tibetans and countless others around the globe. Losar is the tibetan new year, used to be a celebratory time, now a time for rememberence

What kind of angel would you want to be?

Posted on Feb 24th, 2009 by Zephyr : Poeticspirit Zephyr
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 24, 2009:

I would like to be the guardian Angel for our planet, it needs one to protect it from the worst human excesses, hopefully close to our creator so I could learn fast, time is short to make the required changes. We can do the compassion love and charity thing as a human if we are motivated enough.

What type of weather are you wishing for today?

Posted on Feb 25th, 2009 by Zephyr : Poeticspirit Zephyr
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 25, 2009:

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride, the garden teaches me to capitalise on whatever weather comes our way. I enjoyed the cold snap and the snow, the plants all knew it was winter this year and some need a cold snap to boost spring growth for this reason we should get a good crop of strawberries.  Now there is cloud cover but it is mild and not that wet and the soil is workable, so each afternoon I am preparing for planting mulching, tidying, and setting out seeds. I will plant plenty of cucumbers courgettes and squash if it is a wet summer they will benefit, if on the other hand it is sunny and dry the tomatoes and aubergines will thrive. Sometimes I do remember wistfully, the more definite seasons of my childhood, before global warming, the blue blue skies and hanging in the breeze, the fluffy white clouds of long summer days spent barefoot,  in a small pair of shorts, sundress, or bathing suit; days on the beach, or a picnic, picking blackberries, damsons, sloes or chestnuts. I always had a new summer dress at Easter, from then on the summer weather was pretty reliable and the holidaymakers always went home with a nice tan.

Friday Five.

Posted on Feb 25th, 2009 by Zephyr : Poeticspirit Zephyr
1) What have you bought recently?
Some Heritage seeds for the garden, all varieties that I will be able to save seed from one year to the next, they are far more generous amounts than in expensive F1 seeds which don't reproduce true to type,
A really bright special light bulb for my elderly mother, more light in the day is supposed to help them sleep better at night and improve general wellbeing., we are giving it a try.

2) Which special object(s) hold meaning for you?

A brass lidded container made by my son in metalwork
A beautiful leatherwork hair ornament made by  my daughter.
A garden seat thoughtfully provided as a gift by my other son
A delicate gold necklace of an angel, a gift from my partner
who said it reminded him of me.
My set of wooden spoons which have stirred and mixed since I first set up home
My  Poems.,

3) What was the last present you gave?

Some inexpensive but thoughtful gifts for the grandchildren, who visited at the weekend, and a little gift for my daughter in law too. I like giving unbirthday presents,
why wait for special occasions
Oh and a new bird bath for my feathered friends.

4) What little things make your life easier? I look to reduce my emissions and simplifying sometimes makes things easier, eg I gave up my hoover in favour of a broom, £3.50, result no dirty bags to empty or replace, it's cheaper and it takes no longer.

5) Do you like to throw things away?
If it's something I don't use or need I prefer to give away, or recycle, or renovate, I hate to see things carelessly thrown away despoiling the environment.
Sometimes if I grow too many plants I sell to raise money for charity.
