What might you learn to live without, and why?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 25, 2008:

Awareness of being is the means by which we shed light on our existence

I had a couple of free hours respite from caring yesterday and I went for a walk
in our local woodland. It had been a hot and humid day, stuffy. As I walked in the cool
dappled light and inhaled deeply I was aware and appreciative of a different quality in the air I breathed, it was sweet, clean, fresh, cool invigorating. I thought what have we done, trees are the lungs of our planet and we have systematically hacked away at our lungs. We now have forecasts for air quality and still we fail to make the connection, whole forests are felled and trees cut down to make room for more development.
I can live without material things but the natural gifts of our planet are irreplaceable. We forget we live in an eco system, detroy that system - and we destroy ourselves. I am taking responsibility at home, planted seven trees this year, helping to redress the balance, I also planted six trees in India. I don't buy products that fell forest for land, so no palm oil in anything I buy: next plan is a gift of mango trees to provide a living in a poor area and help the planet. Any wood I buy comes from renewable rescources, or I renovate old furniture
At home I don't use chemical air fresheners, I have lots of house and garden plants to mop up, clean, and fragrance the air.
Try it take a trip to your local woodland and breathe.....breathe.....breathe....raise your awareness of fresh air. Trees are our air conditioning and they don't pollute. Aside from all this they are so beautiful, and gift us with fruit and nuts - well now you know, I am really  quite nutty about them!!!!! Gonna give a tree a hug and some gratitude.

Hi Shirley, yes, I won't tell.  If everyone planted just one tree, think how much that would green our world.

Amen Z. We need nature, and esp trees. We need to learn how to also make paper from something else!

Have you seen planet green? I believe it's one of the discovery channels. I can't remember the exact wording but the following was taken from it:

Generally it was about being green and why even bother being green when so many people don't care. One of the people said the global problem is so bad that it's going to take Government action to even slow down the destruction of the earth. We're not even sure it can be stopped because the problem is so big.   Why even bother helping because it's like a drop in the bucket.

One of the other people at the table said what would history be like if the people didn't precede the governments? Slavery was abolished only after many people died and others did everything within there power to stop it. Including exhausting all possible resources.

They were mocked and heckled by everyone. They were told it was impossible.   What would the history books be like if they read

“one day the governments ended slavery out of the blue” —>

You are so correct Zephyr! Trees glorious trees! I have had a favorite tree in different places that I have lived… Even now this is the big wondrous tree that I can not touch but it stand gloriously among the others along the edge of the field… Walking in the woods, small maybe acre of land of trees and ground cover of flowing flowing plants is my studio, my muse, my model for creative work…
Night, Neale Donald Walsch says in his workshops and most likely in CWG material to people who say or ask “but I am only one person what can I do. What difference does it make”? he response is “you could Be that one person who makes the difference, you could Be domino that makes the rest fall. You could Be the Hundredth Monkey that makes that change, awakens. the rest…”  So I say and Neale would say Let's all Be the One!Breathe the air, enjoy the earth, plant trees, love your trees. We may learn to live without trees but do we want to?
I am Love, Jeff

right there with you Zephyr

only yesterday in the woodland I often visit, I noticed the beautiful serene prescence of the many trees, plants and wild spreading bushes, such a blessing gifted to us, when we notice and give thanks for nature and her abundance we are the '' difference''

Your blog is testament to the shift Zephyr, those who are now remembering the real truth, those things in which we dwell, in which we are,  how we are caring as they care and provide for us, the balance is so important and sacred.

I have found myself lately adopting those little  plants, trees,  that are left dry, blocked away from the sun on  supermarket shelves or garden centres,
those tiny  little  shrubs who may be thrown away because they did not sell, dont look attractive, so when dried up are thrown out never to bloom or express themselves and be…
It seems only the colourful flowered shiny leaved ones are mostly purchased and taken home, I heard one lady say, '' ooh not that one its dying''
If one looks to the back of the shelf in the shaded corner they may find a little one, hidden away from the quality display, possibly trying in some way to reach light and may succeed with a litte water, wonder and energy..
It makes me wonder how nature has also become part of the designer, display industry and yet is at times denied her very basic requirements for sustaining well being.
Has man forgotton that his own artistic gifts and creations can be enanced by maintaining and respecting natures prescence.
I feel nature requires no enhancements or captivity, left alone, even supported whenever possible within her own surroundingsshe shall excell beyond our greatest  imagination.

Bringing them home and planting into a new bed, noticing the '' change'' the renewal and wonderful artistic unfolding brings me so much joy. Such little rejects have all came back into their glory, it is indeed a pleasure to see. I now pick up such little ones whenever I am out and about, the withered, dried out and drooped, all they need is some attention and a chance..
In good balance and intention even the most threatened and diminished can renew, for such is the way creation…

love to you my friend

Nightphoenix,  planet green is on skye tv and we don't have that, I believe those who precede government have a duty to inform government, they get fed up and act eventually!!!!!

Jeff,  yes it only takes one person with a good idea for the domino effect

Rose buddy,   have you thought of writing a book using your word skills, I reckon you should share that with the world, just choose something you're passionate about and write. Smiles

Ange,  you are such a lovely soul and I bet the plants thrive in your care.

CG, you too my friend.

Yes awareness of being shed light on our existence. The trees are worshipped in hindu religion. Recently scientist found out that the trees manipulate climate changes as they wish. Another case in India, the secomd largest rain fall area in the world is now suffering without sufficient rain due to lack of trees, which are being cut down for timber. T suggest to read 'The secret life of plants'.

Thanks for steering me here Z,
I'm reading a book on oak trees and all the life they support.  Not only do they supply oxygen, but support a whole eco system.
Love!

Oh yes Dave an oak tree supports a tremendous number of different species species and some that just visit at harvest time like the wild boar.
